About Us

In 2002 we started our business from behind the green door in my home ..... in Zwolle. At first we specialized in Fly Fishing for Pike and we registered a logical name for our business : Pikefly !

Over the years our focus went to general fly fishing more and more and if we were lucky, we got the opportunity to explain that we have about anything from Whisperlight Flyfishing to the heaviest tackle for Sailfish and Marlin. If we had less luck, people just surfed away ..... so we changed our business name to Northern Flies, being the most northerly located Fly Only Shop in the Netherlands.

In April 2004 I opened my new location in Kampen, a well known Hanze-city, about 30 km futher downstream on the IJssel. Kampen is a very pretty small town, with a rich trade history and is in the centre of many flyfishing opportunities. In 2009 we moved to Wilsum, a very nice small village along the IJssel

As for tackle (and we all focus on tackle ...... don't we.....) For Pike I prefer using my Zpey and TFO rods to set a hook very positively and also the very fine flyreels handmade by Abel, Bauer and Nautilus.

As for Fly Lines I prefer Shooting-Head systems that will load the rod fast and has the fly in the water instead of in the Air.

As for Pikeflies I of course prefer the flies tied by myself.............. which we shall include in the shop very soon !
